GENERAL PERSONALITY: Philip is very naive to the world and the ways of the world. As a missionary, he is a big believer in God. It wasn't until he participated in the journey to the Fountain of Youth, that Philip's eyes were opened to reality. He doesn't lose his faith, but he gains a belief in the real world and real people as well as this greater being.[3]
Ever since his capture, Philip had traits of arrogance towards Blackbeard, after seeing his cruelty towards others, including his own crew. Although Philip believed that every soul could be redeemed, he knew that redeeming Blackbeard's own soul was a long shot. But he would never give up
Philip Swift is on a mission completely unlike the pirates, scalawags, kings and sailors all in pursuit of the Fountain of Youth. His is a mission of salvation, and even when taken prisoner by Blackbeard and ruthlessly tortured, Philip’s spirit remains unbroken. But something stirs inside of his heart as well as his soul when he encounters the mermaid he calls Syrena on the quest for the Fountain of Youth—feelings which prove that the path to real deliverance may lie beyond the Good Book he carries with him.

HISTORY:
Not much is known about Philip's early life. At some point in his life, Philip became a working missionary in the Caribbean. He was later captured by Blackbeard's crewmen during Blackbeard's raid on a remote island. He was held captive aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge as a slave during the journey for the Fountain of Youth.
During the mutiny on the Queen Anne's Revenge, Philip refused to join either sides of the fight. After the mutiny, Blackbeard attempted to shoot Philip, but he was stopped by his own daughter Angelica.
When the mermaid hunt at Whitecap Bay intensified, Philip was pinned down by some wood and a young mermaid saved him by shoving him out of the way as it fell. When he got up, he stabbed her in the tail, an act he later regretted deeply. When he saw her, scared, bleeding, and trembling, Phillip pulled the sword out. However, Blackbeard and his crewmen captured her with a net as she hissed.

He had been on the infernal ship for about a fortnight now and still no word from his uncle who was a lord in the kings court of England. He only got rasions once a day on the ship. He had spent his time in the brig for the past two weeks. He looked down as he saw his Angel come in from the bitter cold that was outside. Even though she didn't looked wavered from the weather at all. He saw she had his daily rassions with her.
He stood up and saw the cell unlocked and they moved to a table and sat down together, "IF your father catches wind of us he will surely take action upon you and you can't be touched for god is watching over you and as I am "He said as he held her hand and smiled, "I thank the lord every day for sending me an Angel such as you while I am on this ship. It would be dismal with out you on this ship"He said as he looked at her as he took a bite of his bread and then took a sip from the water cup and then smiled, " Why stay here I wonder? When there are endless possiblities across the seas. Why stay in this infernal place serving him. He is a monster ...Can't you see that, I am trying my best to convert him but all my attempts are futitle ...Sometimes I wonder if it is the work of the Devil Incarnate "he said pausing seeing her face.
"I am deeply sorry if my actions have upset you...I never meant them to. They were only for you to try to realize your father isn't the father you remember ...You told me you just were reunited after many moons apart. Angelica he isn't the same man...He is not worth saving ...But you still can be if you and I get off this ship together...I can ask my father for pardon and get you a place of status in the kings court...Join me in London when this is over..?"he asked curiously as he looked at her as he knew this was a lot to do considering she would be leaving all that she knew. But if it meant him saving her from this way of life, he would do. He was starting to fall in love with this woman.
